Political/Social Speech Topics?

Question

I will be representing my school in a State Semi-Finals for Speech.

I can give a 10 minute persuasive speech on any topic I choose.

Not trying to brag, but I've been told I'm a really good speaker so it's not so much the speaking as much as it is the topic.

Something political/social would be good.

I was thinking of medical marijuana.

In light of so much attention to shootings, another good social topic would be how we handle mental illness in the USA or in your State. The impact of technology on communication skills and how they are changing. There is so much out there of interest, guess you will have to go with what ignites you to speak, but medical marijuana is so seen as a way for people to do drugs that it's old news. Many States have legalized medical marijuana. From a young person judges may get a bias going.

How is that intelluctual...Pick something your school is noted for or some topic your age level understands and feels opinionated about that makes sence. Why political are your involved in any politics that your really affected by...

Something I've been philosophizing about lately is why feeling pride for one's country or for being a member of that country is both irrational and harmful.



Though accurate, it would definitely be a challenging topic to disucss in a patriotic or nationalistic coutry such as the US.
