Over the centuries we have always had chaos politically, socially, and environmentally. One major problem is that technologies are evolving more quickly than they have in the past. We are heading to a global economy, great distances can be traveled in short periods of time, people can talk to each other with ease (a hundred years ago this wasn't possible), and the list goes on. Can the human race survive. This is difficult to answer. Humans live and do the same things that they have for thousands of years. They do what they need to do to survive. I often ponder that maybe humans as a whole should broaden our horizons and look deeper within our capabilities. Can the human race survive the next 100 years? No, not as it is now. We are too selfish and self-centered. It is this attitude that will lead to destruction. If we are to survive it will be with a little luck, continued technological advances that give back to Earth and further space exploration, and learning to love your fellow man.

I personally believe the survival of the human race is facing a much larger chance of extinction than ever before. The human race has evolved especially technologically, which I see will be our down fall one day. I personally cannot imagine how the world will be in 20 years let alone 100 years from now. The issues facing the entire human race are worsening so quickly it's unimaginable what will be.

Looking to space is the next step for the human race to survive. I just hope we don't mess up the rest of the solar system as bad as we have earth.

The real question is how can the human race not survive indefinitely. Since the inception of mankind, adversity has been the one consistent force guiding our evolution. The earliest humans had to overcome things that at the time must have seemed unbelievable. Harsh and variable weather with limited or no protection. Nourishing ones self in a harsh environment with little or no knowledge about nutrition. Surviving and reproducing in a time where mortality rates of infants was well over 50%. Avoiding and eventually dominating all of the ferocious predators on the planet. Establishing clans and eventually societies in a world of limited communication and knowledge. Creating structures out of simple elements which had no previous logical connections. Making sense of and mapping out space using primitive tools and unpopular logic. Should I go on? I truly cannot think how humans would survive without environmental, social, and political strife. We are a species which seems to be made for the unknown and capable of overcoming all obstacles. After all, we are the most powerful parasites ever known to our planet and perhaps our universe.

The human race has to create an automated reproduction technique without the aid of females and or host males. Egg and sperm can already be preserved for long durations ( this has to be extended). A system must be devized in which the egg will be fertilized and will mature much more rapidly than 9 months. Then with this system a spaceship must be built containing all the relevant information and technology today in a super computer capable of creating and manufacturing nano tools and equipment (data storage is already on a huge pace). This space craft must be sent on a round trip from earth set to return to earth in 4 million years and after entering the earth orbit again the craft will wake up from hibernation and start the process of creating the first humans in orbit. Once they have grown the craft(s) will descend to earth and the whole process will start again. Many technologies are neaded for this task including fission and a supreme understanding of genetics and biotechnology. The first humans created will undoubtably be optimum living and surviving machine made from the best strands of DNA available.

A copy of the craft can be made on Earth for much less as an underground base. Wİth above ground sensors to determine if the atmosphere and enviroment is suitable for human existance.

MY answer is a bit more towards long run mass extinction from a total nuclear war, meteor impact or anything else. Maybe even the short run.

I certainly think that the human race can survive for the next 100 years. There has been political turmoil and war for as long as human beings have existed. To consider this century as somehow different would be silly in my opinion.

The climate has cooled and warmed drastically over the past two million years. We have lived through the end of an ice age and will continue to adapt to Earth's everchanging climate. I'd give the species another 2 million years before we evolve into something else.

In order for the human race to survive the next hundred years, there needs to be more understanding between people. Not a simple understanding, but a deep understanding of one another. Often as individuals we look at the world and see the political corruption, the social decay and the environmental degradation and wonder how the world got like this? The answer is within each one of us as individuals. Each person must face themself honestly and accept who they are. We are in a world where people are forever running away from who they are. How can we tackle the problems of society and the world if we cannot even look at ourselves clearly. Because all the qualities that we do not like are within us. We simply choose not to see them and instead project those qualities on everyone around us and to those abroad.

The phrase, "As above, so below" applies not only to science, but to humans as well. If as individuals we do not have compassion, understanding and love for others, then how can we expect politicans and society as a whole to uphold these values.

The root causes of most of the problems of the world come down to peoples fears and desires. These are the two forces that drive us. These are also the two forces that are destroying the world by our hands.

The solution is a different form of education. Our education system is built on competition and comparison that pits one child against another. Shouldn't our education system be one of cooperation, so children can learn a different way of learning. To change the state of the world will take a generation that has not been conditioned the way we have. A generation that will be willing to work with one another in peace and harmony. Our responsiblity will be to teach them as best we can to unhinder them with out prejudice and conditioning.

Survival is a very basic human instinct. However, global human survival has been put in the hands of a few polictical figures and multi-national corporations that make far reaching, long lasting decisions for us all.

The quality of human life has and is determined by the polictical officials or the multi-national corporations that are meant to serve us all.

Therefore, the survival of the human race is contingent upon the collective of individuals that make up the human race (Not political figures or business men) to realize that our survival is not guaranteed. Meaning, that a new thoughtform must take hold amongst the masses, in order for the human race to survive.

This change must occur from the bottom upward.

Dear Stephen,

The human race as we know it now will not survive most likely. It is my belief that the return of the Christ is imminate. I believe that the book of Daniel, Revelations, Jerimiah and other prophetic writings in the Christian Bible are indeed coming to pass. The signs that I look at most closely are the European Union, a Global Dollar, the increasing Anti-Semetic attitude, the alignment of Gog and Magog (Iran & Russia). The list just goes on and on. When I see what we are becoming and how much ground we've lost in just the last 50 years Iknow that we are not evolving, we are devolving. I truly believe that the human race will not survive without the intervention of Jesus Christ. You are truly one of the most brillant minds in the world! Look to the prophacies and know the truth. There is going to be a time of peace and renewal for this earth. The bible says it shall never pass away. I know this is troubling for you, but you must have faith as a child to understand the truth of the creator. Christ's peace surpasses all peace. I know this. Look to Him and your questions will be answered. While we must strive to help other around us. Greed, Evil and Power will drive man to distruction. Only the Creator can stop it.

Read C.S. Lewis, Isaac Newton and the Holy Bible. Then open your heart to the possiblity that it just might be true.

Peace of Christ be with you

I think, unfortunately, that we are beyond saving our planet. Besides being disorganized socially and politically with little hope of working out our differences in order to work for a common goal, we have continued to deplete our host of its natural resources. Overpopulation is already threatening hundreds of millions who are unable to satisfy the most basic needs for human subsistance, food and clean water. The earth is a living organism which we are rapidly destroying. The burning of fossil fuels is choking the enviornment which will ultimately destroy life. This process has been steadily increasing since the mid-nineteenth century and will eventually spiral out of control in the next 50 to 100 years. We see this with the continuing proliferation of new viruses and diseases and also the extinction of plant and animal species. As far as moving into space is concerned, I don't think that the overwhelming technological challenges could be surpassed in order for that to be an option. First of all where is there a hospital enviornment in our solar system? All the planets that we've explored are dead which should tell us something about what the fate of the earth is. I'll close with a question. Is the evolution and proliferation of life on earth nothing more than the manifestation of the decaying process of a dying planet?

The human species is the most adaptable complex animal on the planet. We can live in any envrionment provided we have the ability to control it. If we can't control our environment, our intellect provides us a means to eventually do so. As for our resources, (not including those that provide luxuries) like water and food, even those could be manipulated to our favor and has since the beginning of civilization.

If "society" were to break down some how, methods of agriculture, scientific knowledge, and medical advances will be largely lost. However, as in the past, we will never completely be banished from the face of the earth. A few survivors will adapt to the situation and carry on the torch of man. Unless of course we are hit with catastrophe so destuctive it wipes out every single one of us. If we can forcast such a disaster, our adaptive nature may overcome it. Just like Mr. Hawking suggested recently, we may need to shop around for alternative places to live, hence our adaptive nature. There are a handful of far out scenarios I can imagine that has the possibility of wiping out every last person. The sun exploding is millions years of years away. Global warming is a viable threat, but we can still fix that, and there are plenty of people working on that. Disease, no matter how severe, will never wipe us all out. 100 years is a pessimistic time period to place the rest of our existence. Then again, the question was posted by one of the greatest scientific minds of our time. I tend to think we've got a lot more time then that. Many cilivizations, religions, and prophets since the start of time has had doomsday predictions, and we seem to outlive them all.

Dr. Hawking, the answer to this question will answer yours:

What gives you the will to live?

The survival of the human race is not completely predictable by science. The power of the human spirit cannot be measured. Yet it is a very powerful thing. How can we predict our demise when there is so much potential still within each of us?

Maybe we should concentrate on individuals and less time on the human race as a whole. The human race will not help itself survive. Only each individual person is capable of doing that.

It is my belief that the human race will not survive a future that I think many envision. The statistical and reciprocal factors of the population boom without technology's ability to keep up with fixing the problems we create is the doom factor. Environmental changes are picking up speed: the climate and earth changes, fresh water becoming more scarce, unprecedented famine, war and disease-and I'm talking again about our ability to STOP all that - long enough to come together in solidaridy as a human race to save ourselves. For the masses it won't happen and I think the population has some ten years left to go they way we observe it now. I believe that there WILL be survivors in a hundred years though and it's my fervent hope that they will have evolved spiritually enough to bring that enlightenment to bear on THEIR society. IF that happens in the future, I can honestly envision new cities with hopeful citizens working together such as never in recorded history.

Survival can only be proven by empirical data.

We can theorize about the end of infinity (take for example limits), but can never really know.

The -only- way the human race can survive is through the exploitation of a lesser being. We started out in prehistory by making women the lesser being, this continued and expanded towards making those with dark skin the lesser being, today the lesser being is economic based.

The problem then becomes not how will we survive, but how will we define the lesser being. All lesser beings will eventually seek a non-lesser being status, perhaps this behavior is hard to see on an individual level, but as a total population this is perceivable. A few moments spent thinking about history shows us this.

The only lesser being that can be fully exploited without fear of retaliation are (and I know there will be eye rolls) robotic entities that we can use for autonomous advances , support, and maintenance.

Do not limit your perception of an autonomous entity as a nuts&bolts 1950's robotic monostrosity. Organic solutions could be applied here as well. Perhaps even cross sections of such domains.

We have been pushing ourselves forward with revisions of old ideas and trying to refine these to a higher fidelity. We should concentrate on allowing a robotic entity to further those advances withour our intervention and build into them basic laws that keep them subjugated.

Garbage in is garbage out, humans will never refine our 'real' world to a degree that it sustains everyone in every instance. That kind of bruteforce monotonous attack should be left up to autonomous entities, while we as a group concentrate on innovation.

The human race cannot and will not survive. Even though chaos has always been present, in the time of Jesus there were not weapons that could obliterate entire nation in the blink of an eye. We were not altering the climate of our own planet and not depleting resources at such a fast rate. In my lifetime I am going to see the oil reserves run out, and we still have no clear idea on an alternative source of fuel. In 100 years we will not have space colonies sufficient enough to support themselves without help from Earth. If we look at the situation in North Korea, you can see that one simple thing such as testing a rocket could easily ignite a world wide nuclear war. And once the first bomb goes off they wont stop until there is nothing left. The world politics are constantly at a breaking point. Humanity as we know it will not survive the next 100 years. Dinosaurs lived for tens of millions of years, we have been here for a few thousand and we are already destroying the earth and killing ourselves off. We are an evolutionary mistake and are going to destroy ourselves

There is no need for the human race to survive. The universe is seeded with life, we are only a small part of the whole. Life will take it's course and fulfill it's role in the Universe, with or without humans, or even the earth. It is arrogant to think otherwise. In fact we cannot understand 'the meaning of life' because we are neither the center, nor the purpose of it. We will die as a species someday, somewhere, somehow, but it won't matter one bit.

It seems clear, to me, that the story becomes the reality, becoming the story. Richard Brodie posed the theory of MEMES, a 'Virus of the Mind' written by Brodie is a clear example of how one's thoughts can become a material manifestation. Virus's mutate and are very resilient...they will demolish humanity. Be it a virus of the mind, like fundamentalist Islam operating on the code of Arabic, or a bird flu / SARS scenario...the virus will defeat the host. Humans are smart enough to stay out of the chicken coop, however there will always be a human placing their mouth directly on the beak of their prize winning rooster to free the blood and debris caught in it's throat during a prize cock fight( A man contracted the bird flu from just this action and died )...if this instance ushered in the human to human strain, his action could have cost millions of people their lives. The real terror is religion. A program based in bliss and reward that is unproven and nowhere to be seen on earth. It is this lust for an afterlife that will demolish the human race. People WANT the Apocalypse to prove their gods are right, so it must be manufactured. The story(Bible, or religious text) becomes the reality, thusly becoming the story. How's that for no beginning and no end!

The human race can survive if you place a number of types of people from around the world including men, women and children together. The adults should have specific skills such as educators, doctors, farmers, builders, scientists, and other such types.

You place them all together on a certain secluded area in the world with no contact from other people outside of this group. However you should have one group of people from within the group that monitor's world events via satelite and radio. This group of people should also be provided with an unlimited amount of money and research from around the world on space technology, alternative fuels and medicine, food growing techniques and any other way of helping the human race survive. These people should be a mixture from around the world and should be thouroughly screaned to be sure that no violent or disease carrying types are permitted to be among the group. The women and men should be tested and only permitted in the group if they are able to reproduce, unless they already have children that will be accompanying them in the group. This group should also be protected by a United Nations security force providing tight security around the area inwhich they live as to prevent anyone from entering or leaving. This means that this group must be an all volunteer group with the understanding they will never be allowed outside of the area inwhich the group as a whole is located. This means they must never be interfered with by the outside world including the U.N. security forces protecting them.

Chaos is necessary for human survival. In fact, it is part of the natural ebb and flow that ensures the evolution and continuance of all life. Concurrently, revolution is an eminent by-product of chaos, but whether it will come in the form of social, political, environmental, or biological still remains to be seen, however, many humans will undoubtedly perish in its wake. Unfortunately, or fortunately, an unconscionable loss of life will be the impetus for the changes that will need to take place for the human race to survive. The next hundred years will see death and destruction, as well as adjustment, but it will not see the end of the human race.

This is the age old question. If we take a look back over thousands and thousands of years you will take notice that we are adaptable species. Granted some vast civilizations have been wiped clean, and all that we have are reminders that they were here.

However it does not come down to a religious prediction of death and destruction of man kind it's more along comes down to awareness knowing what is around you and how that you can better help the situation. An individual strength with their inner sanctimony they can over come so many obstacles, wars, starvation, genocide, disease. The need to survive is a basic human need I guess you can look at Maslow's Hierarchy Table for reference.

With this question how will the human race survive the next hundred years you will also have to look at our planets natural resource to predict if we will survive the next hundred years? With a lot of our rain forest being cut, petroleum being depleted, and our water being polluted, and our tress around the world being cut down, etc. knowing that we have to have these things for any living thing to survive. You can call it the circle of life a give and take relationship except we seem to taking more than giving. With the population on the rise it seems that we will have to expand and along that line more of our resources will be gone. Once we used to live with nature now we live against for our own selfish gain for our own “slice of paradise.”

I think there is a chance that we could all survive if and when we wake up and see what we are doing. We are living out of touch with ourselves and with nature, and only time will tell when nature will bite back. There are simple things people can do to help it is better than doing nothing at all, and complaining about it. Recycle, volunteer anywhere, cleanup projects, write your congress, get involved with your passion any where around the world, stop help your neighbor out. Fact is that we can not make it in this world alone. We do not want to be known as the generation who destroyed everything for what? What did we gain out of it?

My great grandmother once told me if you take the Deer out of the population what will happen? Vegetation overgrowth, wolves and cougars who hunt the Deer will starve. What will happen if you take Bees out of the population? Flowers would not pollinate and fruit would not be made. What would happen if you take Humans out of the population? Nothing at all would happen everything would go on like it was supposed to. See we are not as important as we think we are, so it is a privilege to live here not a right so we must take care of our home and everything on it because it is the only one we have.

The human race will survive by war, plague or cataclysm that will eliminate large percentages of the human population. This will eliminate most of the political and social climates around the world.

Environmentally, it will give the planet time to heal itself. The population will rebuild again until the next such event.

I don't want to say apocalypse, but more of a nice toilet-flushing or accelerated Darwinism.

Chaos has been with us to varying degrees since the first humans trod the Earth. Your statement about Jesus time is relevant in terms of the Earth's populace multipying more than 100 fold since that time. Therein lies the issue...The Earth can provide FINITE resources for our survival and we are simply outmultiplying the ability of the Earth to provide. Additionally, we are destroying systems that allow the Earth to heal itself and continue providing. Hate to be a doomsayer, however, given the factors outlined above we'll eventually perish as a race unless we immediately and decisively address overpopulation and pollution. It's unfortunate that it may/might be too late. Hopefully this is wrong...but I personally fear for the survival of humanity.

Funny, my great grand parents thought there was chaos about a hundred years ago and folks suffering in various plagues and wars must have felt the same.

I suspect that in 2106 things will be RELATIVELY the same. I would like to hang around to collect a bet on it.

That said, if we can get human population growth to level off, I think that the formulas all change toward stabilization and we just might just have enough time to develop "warp power".

Live long and prosper... but mind the birth control.

The human race will survive as long as necessary until Christ returns. If people would quit being selfish, self-serving and self-centered it would make the time from now until then more pleasant. If we'd quit looking to ourselves and reached out to our fellow man we could end crime and poverty. Unfortunately too many humans are only out for what they can get.

True peace will only arrive on this planet when Christ returns and sets up His kingdom here. Turning our lives over to Jesus is THE answer.

Considering the complexity of the question, I find it necessary to answer with 2 different viewpoints. The human race itself has to speak up and declare itself engaged in the process of social evolution. The individuals of the planet, who can vote for change, must unite together and choose their politicians or clergy wisely. These same individuals need to consider what is truly important to themselves, their children and our mother (Gaia). Of course this means nothing if we the citizens of Earth do not have leaders who are willing to step up and be selfless. This is of course the real issue of our times and the history of mankind in general as leaders have been more concerned with their own personal legacies rather then that of their fellow human beings or Gaia. Please read Chief Seattle's letter to all the People.

On a more complex and convoluted level, to which I do not claim to have any specialised knowledge, the fate of human beings has always rested with our beliefs regarding the universe and our own personal importance related to it. As perceivers in an impersonal realm that does not need to have a beginning or an end, we have difficulty reconciling the fact that our individual existences are limited to a Brief period in time. Carlos Castaneda's Shaman benefactor Don Juan Matus had said many many times that the universe doesn't give a hoot about our lives and it is up to each of us to make something of it ourselves and that we must choose a Path with Heart. Unfortunately it is easier to do nothing and let others make decisions for us than overcoming gravity and getting off our collective butts to take responsibility for our actions or lack of action. Don Juan has said that the universe has 2 types of energy: Energy without a life force (material things) and Energy with a Life-force which encompasses all of the living things in the universe we are aware of and those we are not aware of, yet. It may be a long time before the individuals of the Human race learn or are taught that a Path with Heart has nothing in common with the conquest of material things or personal legacies.

The opinion leaders of the human race have proven ingenious over the centuries at averting mass catastrophe. With today and tomorrow's instant communications capabilities, we will enable a shared sense of the global village. This will help the involved citizens of the world choose a prudent future for all of us.

well, yes chaos has always been here, but the big problem, and i'm sure partially it's the one that makes steven a tad squeemish, is the fact that now we have the technology to blow our selves up much better than ever before. What do you think the world population would be now, if for example Hitler had nuclear weapons? Now, when is the "next" Hitler" going to come a long?

The answer lies in our ability to innovate. That might seem like a simple answer but I believe that this can be predicted mathematically and Mr. Hawking's question can be given substantive answers. Unfortunately creating the right formulas for a new mathematical theory and usuable prediction models would require someone much smarter than myself. For argument's sake, let's call this the foundation for a "Theory on Limitation."

You will notice on ths website that most of the answers given for this question choose one side or the other, survival or no survival, and provide as their proof a melting pot of global issues that lend themselves to our survival or destruction. This reminds me of Nash's theory of equilibrium where opposing forces work to find a middle ground, and Nash was able to represent this mathematically.

The "Theory of Limitation" would actually begin with this equilibrium, and at this state the human race would have equal chances of surviving or destroying itself. This equilibrium would lie in a carefully balanced state upset by both positive and negative forces. The chances of survival could be represented mathematiaclly by defining the impact of both positive and negative innovation.

To provide the proper framework, we could easily go back through more than 2000 years of innovation and look at the positive and negative impacts on the human race. How did each innovation increase or decrease the likelihood that the human race will continue to survive? Serious study could provide the math necessary to create usuable prediction models that can be adapted to include X-factors such as the ever-increasing speed of innovation and the chances that a meteor will hit the earth and stop everything cold.

What is the mathematical impact of our ability to engineer food sources vs. the destruction of our own food supply? What is the the mathematical calculation that predicts whether our ability to create new medicines will outpace the superbugs created by our own antibioics? What is the probability that we will be able to engineer habitat on any surface in any environmnt faster than we will deplete our water supply, ozone and rain forests?

As I said earlier, the "Thoery of Limitation" would need minds much smarter than mine to be useful. But there is a way to answer this question with more than opinion.

One word, 'adaptation.'

As it has, since the day the human race began its journey, it has learned to adapt to any situation, not to prosper, but instead to survive.

All the human race needs in order to survive the next 100years, is to continue the cycle of meeting its needs. Just as animals have adapted for centuries, so to will the human race. While it could include such superficial things as getting rid of nuclear weapons, etc, whatever obstacle is faced, it will be adapted to.

We simply need to realize that we are no longer consumers for we are now being consumed. We drown in our desires, wants, and materialism. On one extreme, governmental policies could be set in place that restricts everything from how much water we waste to how much trash we produce per day. Although many people would oppose such constraints on their freedom, people do not realize they already do not have freedom in the sense that not many people think for themselves anymore. We need to break our behavior of being so misguided by our invisible dividing lines (IE. religion, borders, color, job, etc.). There is one earth and one ultimate force called love. Not the love for pizza or flowers or TV but the true love for life and happiness. We need to stop chasing the butterfly we call happiness. We need to stop chasing the next job, car, house, relationship thinking then we will be happy. We need to unite the human conscience and realize we are all part of the disease that is destroying this world. It starts within ourselves, once we change individually how we live and retain our freedom then everything will change. It begins by removing the us versus them mentality. With that way of thinking in many situations you will be labeled them. What are we fighting for? More land, more ****. Just more crap that consumes us and leaves us desiring more. Break out of your prison that penetrates your mind and soul and realize the only way we will survive is not by looking elsewhere, but by looking within and making some changes. That is where our freedom lies. A senior thesis could be written on the changes that would need to be made. But the first part of the answer is we need to change our egotistical way of viewing ourselves as the ulimate being and indestructible. I guess we always forget that we could end up being our own enemies.

We will survive as we have always survived.... through Natural Selection. We seem to be very good at filling niches at the expense of other life. It's not technology which separates us from other species, it's innovation. No matter the circumstances, we seem to be uniquely able to adapt to the new environment.

We, as a species, are depressed - and spend more time trying to justify inaction than finding ways to help ouselves work towards action & creativity. Time to stop judging - and start living.

So - start today - visit your neighbour - bring a bottle of wine - be nice - give them something for no reason - tell the truth.

Do this as much as possible...and never look back.

Of course we're gonna make it; and thanks for asking the question - peace & love...you're brilliant.

Humans are not as different as we would like to think, from the millions of other species that have lived on this planet. Natural selection is and will happen to us, and is becoming more obvious as the numbers have swelled to the breaking point. I cannot predict any significanr event that will cause our swift demise, but as 99.9% of the species have become extinct, so will we.

MOSTLY WARS ARE CAUSED BY RADICAL RELIGIOUS HUMANS. No mankind can survive another 100 years until the fanatics are dealt with, I am not saying religion is going to wipe out the human race, but it does contribute to killings, brutality, war, if lead out by those who want to kill in whatever their "gods" name is. SO UNTIL we humans continue to kill each other in "vain full manner" due to some religious belief; and also you can add in different politics, race, gender, all of it; we are too diversified to ever get along....that is the bottom line.

Stop and Start. First stop the war and environmental killing and start peace and renewable energy. Show the people what they are doing to the Earth and show them their future if they keep up war and environmental killing. Then, they would know what they should do, which would be probably the right thing.

How to survive when little children and grand-children with those on the way of all tribes of different community after independence were all running on batteries with shorten life-cylces.

Trace it from the medical records.

Ask Romeo and Juliet why they were dying in their youth.

Sad movie always make me cry.

I am weary about listening to anyone who has been called a genius based on material no one else understands. If he is the only one who understands it or just a few people do, how can we tell if they are really smart or just agreeing with each other.

We have to follow the golden rule. If we put the needs of all people before our own-we will have paradise on earth. Everyone would look after one another.

I think the human race will continue to live on indefinetely until some outside force beyond our control says otherwise. This does seem hard to agree with considering the state of our country and world; nuclear weapons, global warming, poverty, famine, so on and so forth. If there is one thing constant in any land, country, or world for that matter, it is mathematics. With mathematics as a tool to help explain, I think that everything will work out. Undoubtly the most important symbol in the universal language of math is the "=" symbol. That's the unltimate goal. Everything from simple addition to the overly trite expression of "rocket scienece" focuses on getting whatever is on both ends of this "=" to make both sides equal, or cancel out. That's how math works, and that is what makes our world work; balancing out both positives and negatives to reach equilibrium. There is no good deed done in this world that is not countered with an equally bad deed or action, and vice versa. As horrible as it is to lose someone you loved or who was close to you, death is essential to the survival of our species and any other species. A forest fire destroys thousands of acres of hundreds of years old trees. Is that a bad thing? Yes and no. Yes because those massive monuments to the glory and power of nature are gone, but without the death of those trees by fire there would be no natural compost or room to allow for new plants and trees to sprout. Without wars, disease, famine, and people just being real jerks by nature, we would be doomed. If everyone lived until they were 80 because there were no more of the afore mentioned disasters, life for everyone would be horrible, far more horrible than it is now. There would not be enough, food, water, shelter, land, transportation, jobs, etc. for everyone to live to the age of 80. This is the beauty of life and mathematics; give and take until it comes back to level. For every disease that has sprung up humans have found ways to combat it. But as if by some miracle nature introduces a new disease or virus to curb the ammount of lives that have been saved from finding a cure from the past disease. Just when we think we have small pox and polio whipped with some quick fix vaccine, and new disease appears that is much harder to subdue than any before. Once AIDS is controlled with a vaccine, there will be a new disease that will take it's place and be just as hard to cure, guaranteed. The point of this response is to make people aware that everything does work out, maybe not the way you, yourself, would like for it to, but everything comes back to equal. "The love you make is equal to the love you take." That also goes for anger. "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction" is probably the best way to sum this all up. From this, every "good" deed done will always result in something bad to someone or something else sooner or later. Just as it is for "bad deeds". Without "good" there would be no need for "bad", and without "bad" there would be no need to do "good". "Bad" things motivate us to evolve, move past, solve, or eliminate problems at hand. From these positive and negative events we are able to grow as individuals, families, a society, and a world. Inevitably there will always be scares, plagues, floods, storms, wars, absent-minded drivers, and fast food to help us meet our maker. Humanity will live on until an outside force disruptes it and brings the planet Earth to it's end. But for humans to just erase themselves out of the Earth equation (being that we are single handledly the biggest factor on how the planet and things living on it are shaped) wouldn't work. It doesn't fit with Karma, ying and yang, the battle of good and evil, positive and negative. Most importantly having humans out of this equation is just plain bad math.

"Stephen Hawking has asked how the human race will survive the next hundred years. How & why it cannot survive?"

Stephen Hawking, was very wise to ask how the human race will survive the next hundred years, however his reasons for asking the question are different than mine.

The Human race might not survive if the world remains the way it is:

1. Democratic governments rather than governments run by philosophers. Democratic governments have always failed the people, because democracy is a corrupt system of government, because the masses vote for who they want and the masses can never make the right decision, otherwise they wouldn't need a government, but it's not the fault of the masses that they are ignorant it is the fault of the rich rulers throughout history whether capitalist or otherwise whom failed the people, because of their stupid ideology, but a government of philosophers can never fail the people, maybe thats why it is not in power anywhere, because the corrupt rulers of the world would loose popularity and their corrupt system of "democracy" would be unveiled for its ignorance.

2. Industrialism and the constant pursuit of creation of foolish new technologies for mere luxury at the expense of the environment and through the exploitation of third world countries, keeping them in debt and keeping dictatorships in power in those countries to ensure the stability of the exploitation of the cheap labor/products/resources. The pollution caused by industrialism has done permanent damage to the atmosphere, allowing the sun's rays to penetrate more strongly onto the surface of the Earth which is causing the record-breaking heat waves and massive forest fires, dehydration epidemics, and floods. The pollution caused by industrialism has permanently contaminated the soil and water in many parts of the world, through oil spills, radiation, acid rain, and etc. The pollution caused by industrialism has made the air in many cities unhealthy to breath. The noise pollution caused by industrialism and its inventions has led many people to become deaf at a young age. The pollution caused by industrialism and it's inventions has led many people to become permanently contaminated and produce deformed babies.

3. Education is taught without emphasis on wisdom and more emphasis on learning more knowledge in a shorter amount of time, without concern for the teaching of wisdom and lessons of the past in regard to individual conduct, which is the reason why there are so many social problems in countries nowadays, and people use their high level of intelligence for evil/selfish pursuits rather than using their knowledge to solve the problems of their society. The purpose of education should not be to help people get high-paying jobs to get rich, but to help them make an adequate living by helping society solve its problems, by using education to become servants of society such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, rather than use education to be parasites of society, such as financial analysts, bankers, accountants.

4. The modern society has so much sophistication compared to the society of 2000 or 3000 years ago, that people have so much stress, even though it is supposed to be a more easy society because of democracy, industrialism, and globalism. The high levels of stress in the modern society are the reason why many people are depressed, obese, schizophrenic, deformed, retarded, anti-social, and jealous of others. The high levels of stress in the modern society are the reason why people are having much more headaches than in past history, and people are having much greater problem going to sleep. The high levels of stress of the modern society are leading it to develop more and more sophisticated means of violence, to the point that human society has now reached the point that it can self-destruct itself through another world war. The high levels of stress of the modern society are causing more and more people to kill themselves and kill others for enjoyment. The high levels of stress of the modern society are causing more and more people to buy different products for entertainment, which is causing a greater and greater demand for cheaper products from third world countries through exploitation of their societies by maintaining support for the tyrants that rule those countries.

5. Individual competition of the modern society is more ferocious than any time in history, to the point that people of modern societies are much more arrogant toward one another and much more concerned with looks, wealth, and education than righteous conduct and wisdom. Righteous conduct and wisdom is universal it does not require religion to understand that humans have come this far due to righteous conduct and wisdom, so anything else that interferes with righteous conduct and wisdom amongst society is an enemy of society, and society is not more important than wisdom and righteous conduct, for society exists because of wisdom and righteous conduct, so no one has the right to enjoy in corrupt acitivities, for such a freedom is the very reason for the turmoil of society, because such activities lead to the stresses and anti-social behavior and arrogance that are making modern society one of the most evil in all of history.

6. The space program is developed to explore the universe, at the expense of the Earth, for so much pollution is caused to the Earth in sending humans and space crafts to space and enormous amounts of wealth are spent in the foolish pursuit of exploring space, this is such a classic example of humans escaping their problems, why do we need to spend so much wealth and do so much pollution to the Earth to explore the universe? Even if we are ready to colonize another planet, we will do the same to it as we have to this one or we will destroy each other or the Earth before we can colonize another planet, and/or we will fiercely battle over land on the new inhabitable planet. The wisdom of all times is ignored in trying to explore the universe. But perhaps there is a lesson in every great folly, and it occurs for a reason and maybe it is a part of human destiny to try to explore the universe just to realize that we were fools and we could have spent all the enormous wealth in trying to explore the universe instead on solving the problems of humanity on Earth, and we could have prevented so much permanent pollution to the Earth by living simple and respecting one anothers race/nation and punishing those that pursue the path of luxuries, entertainment and pride because it is what has led to what we are today, in that we have to constantly worry about so many things that we can't concentrate and can't sleep and have head aches and don't have the calmness to be kidn to one another and be considerate to one another, and we need false comforts to get rid of our stresses such as music, sweets, over-eating, sex, drugs, and sports, rather that realizing that we as humans should not have so much stress and if our society is sophisticated to the point that many of us have so much stress, we need to realize that we are on the wrong path and that going "backward" is actually going "forward". The true comfort in trying to get rid of our stress is working on finding the cause of the stress and trying to solve the problem through wisdom.

"Even during the era of Jesus the chaos were there on account of which he was crucified due to no fault of his."

Jesus was crucified for standing up against the foolishness of his society in worshipping luxuries, allowing oppressors to rule them, and rejecting the handicapped and the poor and the prostitutes.

People like Jesus are "Crucified" even in our society of today, even by the beleivers of Jesus, Jesus wanted to teach us to learn from his example not to think that he was some God that was capable of having so much love for everyone and dying for the truth in exposing the evils of his society and having sympathy for prostitutes, handicap people, beggars, and the working-class and sharing his every meal with others. And dressing with simple clothes and never enjoying luxuries.
